 Who Are We?

There is danger from all men. The only maxim of a free government ought to be to trust no man living with power to endanger the public liberty.

Singing and Swinging

In the last year

I been told I’s proud

“She won’t speak up“ and

She's much too loud

“Your problem is you’re too meek and mild”

and wild

Think I’m ready for showbiz

Got my family to thank

When the man told me my music stank

Said way too fat

And much too old

I said

“Buddy, I done been told”

But you know what?

We’re still singing and swinging

Picking and grinning

We’ll be swinging if this goes twelve innings

We’ll be doing

What we’ve always done

You guessed it

Having fun

If you want to be happy

Then find you a man

Who don’t talk much

 and works with his hands

Don’t hurt a bit if he’s big and strong

When you find him,

Sing along

Guy told me

If I married him

He knew just

Where I’d end

Sitting on the back porch

rocking

Watching soybeans grow

You know something better

Let me know

Why do they want to say things like that?

Hurt your feelings and stab your back?

Cause they’ve got nothing else to do

But you

They got no biz

Can’t make hush and you can’t make them stop

Don’t want to stop

Til they stop your clock

One true thing my mama told me

Idle hands

Are the devil’s workshop

(Chorus)

But you know what?

We’re still singing and swinging

Picking and grinning

We’ll be swinging if this goes twelve innings

We’ll be doing

What we’ve always done

You guessed it

Having fun

Well, the guy who told me I didn’t belong

I’m still here and he’s long gone

And the boy who told me he’d never

Met a mama no meaner

You know where he is?

Working in a dry cleaners

And the guy who told me I better beware

You know that thing about the rocking chair?

You know where he is?

I don’t either

No one I know knows or cares

But you know what?

We’re still singing and swinging

Picking and grinning

We’ll be swinging if this goes twelve innings

We’ll be doing

What we’ve always done

You guessed it

Having fun

And rocking
